Alstroemeria, also known as the Peruvian lily, comes from South America and was named after Swedish baron Claus von Alstroemer. It is differentiated by the extremely varied colors of its six tepals, approximately 2 inches long (5 cm), and distinctive dark colored marks in the shape of elongated drops. According to the legend, Alstroemeria gained its distinctive pattern when a beautiful young girl traded her life for this flower, which was the only antidote to cure her beloved. The drops of blood fell on the delicate flowers, staining it.
Alstroemeria symbolizes friendship, devotion, selflessness, self-sacrifice, prosperity and fulfillment of dreams.
